Accountant

Swim Recruiting

4 days a week part-time role based in Richmond.

Great opportunity for an accounting and bookkeeping professional who is seeking a role with a friendly and tightknit team. Opportunity to work closely with a business owner and to see the inner workings of a busy retail company.  We’re looking for technically strong accountants who enjoy diverse responsibilities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, tax remittances, cashflow management, payroll, etc. Welcoming and tight-knit team with many long-tenured employees.

Who- the Company:

Our client is a small and entrepreneurial retail organization based in Greater Vancouver with an over 30-year history. The organization has a friendly and professional culture, with employees who have been with the company for many years.

What- the Role:

Our client is looking for a well-rounded and hands-on individual to join their entrepreneurial team as an Accountant. Reporting directly to the company’s Owner/President and working with a close-knit team of folks in sales, marketing, warehouse & inventory management, etc., who all collaborate closely. The new Accountant will take care of accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, journal entries, credit card & bank reconciliations (5 credit cards, 2 bank accounts), tax remittances (preparing GST returns, year-end tax forms), payroll (fairly straightforward payroll for ~20 people), etc., for 2 active business entities. Additionally, the Accountant will support with occasional administrative tasks, as this company has a “we’re all working together and we all wear many hats” kind of culture.

This is a permanent part-time employee role, 4 days a week (i.e. 80% schedule). Please discuss with SWIM which days a week and how many hours a day you are able and wanting to work, as there is some flexibility on the work schedule for this role (i.e. working 8 hours a day/4 days a week, or working 6.5 hours a day/5 days a week, etc.)

Who- the Candidate:

This is a well-rounded role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in an entrepreneurial environment and who is hands-on in their approach. This is a unique opportunity to have direct accountability for the accounting and bookkeeping at an established company where you can get direct insight into the innerworkings of the business. Great communication skills are key. The Accountant will liaise internally with all colleagues, as well as externally with auditors, suppliers, vendors, and customers. Strong Excel skills are required, as is an interest in optimizing the use of other financial systems.

  • 3 years relevant full-cycle accounting experience.
    • A mix of corporate accounting and operational accounting is ideal- especially exposure to accounting in an inventory-based organization.
  • Relevant post-secondary education related to accounting- such as an accounting certificate, an accounting diploma, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Friendly and reliable team player;
  • Ability to manage several competing priorities at once;
  • Detailed oriented, resourceful, and analytical with good problem-solving and critical thinking abilities;
  • Systems:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (look-ups, pivot tables, sum-if, etc.);
    • Understanding of mid-size financial systems (i.e. QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, etc.) and payroll systems (i.e. ADP, PayWorks, Ceridian, etc.)

How Much:

The compensation will be equivalent to $25 to $35 an hour, with a sweet spot of around $28 to $30 an hour (compensation will be annualized based on agreed upon 80% work schedule and will be based on level of work experience, accounting skills, and education). Please note that candidates will need to have all the qualifications and many years of relevant accounting work experience to be considered at the high end of the range. Please discuss your total compensation expectations further with SWIM.

Where:

Full-time in office during initial training and onboarding. After that, the Accountant can likely start to work from home up to 50% of their work week. The office is based in RICHMOND. We’re ideally seeking someone who has some flexibility on their commute within Greater Vancouver and who has access to their own vehicle.
