The Director, Organizational Design & Effectiveness (ODE) leads and executes strategic enterprise organizational transformation initiatives. The role partners with business and HR leaders to complete strategic ODE work to deliver business results and/or minimize risk. Projects are of high impact and strategic in nature.

Key focus areas include: (1) providing advice and counsel on enterprise business transformation / organizational restructuring initiatives for senior leaders (2) leveraging analytics to inform ODE opportunities, and (3) modernizing ODE methodologies and tools based on leading practices. Key advisory accountabilities include end-to-end consultation and facilitation of all phases of ODE initiatives such as: strategic positioning, current state diagnostics (qualitative and quantitative), design principles, design options / recommendations, job evaluations, implementation and change management.

Provides advice and counsel on organization design and organization effectiveness opportunities to a designated business/group to execute the HR strategy and business/group strategy. Completes specific strategic / operational work to deliver business results and/or minimize risk.

  • Leads ODE projects from inception to implementation, ensuring alignment with business strategies, stakeholder needs and emerging practices.
  • Develops longer term program strategies assessing both internal needs & industry trends to deliver best-in-class programs for BMO.
  • Develops an expert understanding of business/group challenges and monitors and tracks performance on organization health & executive portfolio health, and addresses any issues.
  • Leads and builds change management strategies and plans to drive adoption and behaviour change.
  • Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of wide range of organization solutions; includes organization efficiency (e.g., number of layers, span of control, compression) and organization effectiveness (e.g., job design and role clarity, decision making authority & collaboration) and organization development.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a subject matter expert on organizational design solutions and senior ODE specialist resource across BMO.

  • Collaborates across BMO to develop communications strategies and ensure consistency of messaging, in order to positively influence or change behaviour.
  • Builds change management plans of varying scope and type; leads or participates in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Provides thoughtful and effective coaching to senior leaders to maximize skills/capabilities of the group and creates an environment of high performance and openness.
  • Leads the execution of operational programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.
  • Leads/oversees the management of vendor relationships and provides guidelines for execution; ensures that all agreements are met as per requirements.
  • Leads/supports contract negotiations with vendors, balancing cost, risk and performance.
  • Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of core business/group processes.
  • Develops and manages a business/group program.
  • Reviews the program for effectiveness, considers industry trends and recommends enhancements; makes changes as required.
  • Oversees the design, development, and implementation of tools and training required to deliver business results.
  • Develops organization effectiveness solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.
  • Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of wide range of organization solutions; includes organization efficiency (e.g., number of layers, span of control, compression) and organization effectiveness (e.g., role clarity, accountabilities, decision making authority & collaboration) and organization development.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert on organization design solutions and provides advisory support to HR Business Partners to support achieving business outcomes.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Conducts independent analysis to resolve strategic issues.
  • Monitors and tracks performance on organization health & executive portfolio health, and addresses any issues.
  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Supports development and execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Networks with industry contacts to gather and identify competitive insights and best practices.
  • Enhances subject matter expertise and keeps abreast of organization design trends by reading journals and articles, and assisting in the research, assessment and BMO-customization of internal and external information relevant to the theory and practice of organization design.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 9 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge across the field of organization design and development.
  • Expert knowledge of organization design principles, process and methodology, including job evaluation methods and tools.

Salary :

$103,500.00 – $192,500.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
