Job Summary

The Team
The Operations Team at BCTS Seaward-tlasta consists of dedicated forest professionals who work in a collaborative environment. As a member of this team, you will use your knowledge and skills to ensure the Business Area maintains sustainable management practices while delivering timber to the market. You will work closely with Indigenous communities, district staff, and other departments to achieve shared goals. We operate in diverse and remote locations like the Great Bear Rainforest, accessible only by boat, helicopter, or seaplane which can make for an epic workday.Learn more about BC Timber Sales in this short video.

The Role
In this role, you’ll be responsible for achieving our silviculture obligations including the planning, contract administration, and reporting of planting, surveys, and brushing activities. This position offers the opportunity to build valuable connections in forestry, work in diverse environments, and gain broad, hands-on experience.To find out more about our program check out the BCTS website .

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management and three years of experience in one or more operational field forestry activities

. OR

  • An equivalent combination of education or experience such as five years of experience in one or more area of operational field forestry.
  • Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
    • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
    • Cut-block development
    • Forest road engineering
    • Silviculture
    • Timber tenure development and administration
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Forest Professionals British Columbiaas a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preferences may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific operational field-based forestry experience in silviculture.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific forestry experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, or timber tenure administration.
  • Experience in contract or financial administration.

Provisos

  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) position available in Port McNeill.
An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Seaward-tlasta Business Area (Port McNeill).
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement and successfully completed probation period.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
