Job Summary

The Team:
The Collaborative Indigenous Stewardship Framework (CISF) team is an established and dynamic group of six professionals dedicated to operational, communications, information management, funding/finance, policy, and guidance work. Since 2021, the team has played a key role in fostering collaboration with Indigenous partners and engaging a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Together, we are working toward setting joint principles for co-management and co-governance, building trusted relationships, and guiding meaningful decision-making. The team thrives in a supportive, fun environment where collaboration and mutual encouragement are at the core of everything we do.

The Role:
As a Land and Resource Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to develop creative solutions to complex resource management issues, advancing Ministry priorities and stewardship outcomes. You’ll lead diverse project teams, bridging environmental, social, and economic disciplines, and manage strategic initiatives from start to finish. This role plays a crucial part in shaping a co-managed land and resource management framework with First Nations, contributing to long-term sustainability. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Registered as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC), or, able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management or planning field (e.g., Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Agrology, Geography), Law or Public Administration and three (3) years of related experience; OR,
  • Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) and five (5) or more years of related experience working in a natural resource discipline; OR,
  • an equivalent combination of education/training and seven (7) or more years of related experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Valid BC driver’s licence or equivalent.

Related experience is defined as, and must include, each of the following:

  • Training in project management; preference may be given to those with formal training and/or experience.
  • Significant experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience in managing project teams.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience or knowledge in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Experience in leading or participating in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience working for/with First Nations on resource management issues.

Preference may be given to applicants who have training and/or experience with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Researching policy issues and/or conducting policy analysis.
  • Identifying trends and resolving related issues, developing workable alternatives, and/or creating project plans.
  • Continuous improvement process and practices.
  • Managing projects or initiative with staff in a matrix environment and who you may not have line authority over.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in any Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship Regional office; other locations may be considered. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of possible locations.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
