Job Summary

The Team
At the Northwest Fire Centre, you’ll join a dynamic, and established team of diverse individuals working together towards a common goal of wildfire management and safety. Our team includes both unit crews, comprised of 22 people, and Initial Attack crews, made up of 4, with initial attack bases hosting between 18 and 52 members. As a part of this team, you’ll collaborate with professionals in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery from across the province. The Unit Crew Supervisor plays a critical role in executing fire suppression and hazard plans, ensuring crews are effectively mobilized in incident response. The Role
As a Unit Crew Supervisor, your responsibilities will shift throughout the year. In the spring, you’ll focus on preparing for new staff and overseeing their training ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment. During fire season, your role is to ensure the team is well-supported and performing effectively in wildfire response. In the fall and winter, you’ll help with hiring and ramping up for the next season, fostering equity and diversity in your recruitment efforts.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 plus 4 seasons forest fire related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement
  • Successful completion of pre-employment fitness standard
  • Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type
  • Minimum 2 seasons of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver licence

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements

This position has full time on-site requirements.
