Job Summary

The Team

Join the Financial Strategy and Decision Support team, an established group within the Financial Management, Policy, and Compliance Branch, where you’ll collaborate with a dedicated and diverse team of financial analysts, managers, and directors. Our team supports 11 program area branches and monitors funding, budget and forecasts of operating and capital programs and projects for the ministry. The Role

In this role, you’ll be responsible for reviewing and processing operating and capital invoices, journal vouchers, and general ledger reconciliations. Additionally, expenditures are monitored and analyzed to ensure alignment with associated agreements, legislation, policy, budget, and forecasts. Monthly, quarterly, and year end forecasting and reporting tasks are part of this key role. Your work will directly impact British Columbia by providing governance for transit-related programs and projects and ensuring compliance with associated funding agreements. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team of finance professionals, gaining experience across a broad range of financial operations while contributing to meaningful projects that serve the public.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with relevant financial focus (such as Commerce, Economics or Financial Management), plus 2 years of related financial experience; OR,
  • Diploma with relevant financial focus or Government Financial Management Certificate Program, plus 4 years of related financial experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with a professional accounting designation or enrollment in the CPA program.

Related financial experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience providing financial guidance and expertise for a government or public sector program or similar large and complex organization, including financial planning, monitoring and reporting.
  • Experience providing dependable and responsive financial client service to all levels of management and staff.
  • Experience analyzing complex spreadsheets, preparing financial reports, developing budget and expenditure forecasting tools, communicating financial information and recommending options.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This is for one (1) permanent opportunity.
