Job Summary

The Team
The newly formed Fire Services team at BC Wildfire Service, consisting of 12 members such as a superintendent, project coordinator, administrative support, logistics officers, and structure protection specialists, is dedicated to protecting people and property from wildfire risks. Working virtually across the province and collaborating with various partners, the team fosters inclusivity, accountability, and a proactive work ethic.

The Role
As the Project Coordinator for Fire Services, you will coordinate projects, support logistics officers and structure protection specialists, and assist the superintendent in mobilizing resources to protect communities from wildfires. This role offers the chance to join a growing team, with opportunities to enhance services and make a meaningful impact on wildfire protection across the province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in project management or a related field and 1-year related experience; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in project management or a related field and 2 years related experience; OR
  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 3 years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year Supervisory Experience

Related experience includes the following:

  • Experience providing project management coordination and support.
  • Experience using project management software, systems, and methodology.
  • Experience tracking projects throughout the project life cycle and making recommendations to project leaders on revisions.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience with the deployment of Fire Services apparatus and command staff.
  • Previous work experience with contract and procurement services.

  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To be assigned or participate to Incident Command System positions as required.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat, and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.

Kamloops: Kamloops is surrounded by over one hundred lakes as well as the North and South Thompson rivers. Water-based activities are very popular, such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, tubing, skiing, snowmobiling, and ice-fishing. Kamloops has a very strong First Nations culture.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Flexible work options may not be available during emergency operations response periods.
