Job Summary

The Team
The Geospatial Services Team is an established group of six professionals within the Real Property Division (RPD). The team includes specialists in geomatics, spatial data, and GIS programming, working alongside Business Analysts, Real Estate Managers, Environmental Managers, and Directors to drive spatial business improvements. They are dedicated to exploring innovative geospatial technologies to transform client business and provide mobile and web mapping solutions. The team is committed to collaboration, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where diverse perspectives contribute to the success of their work.

The Role
As a Spatial Data Analyst, you’ll design and develop customized spatial products and maps to support critical decision-making across the ministry. Your work will directly impact property management, emergency response, and client services, helping to manage government assets more effectively. This is an exciting opportunity to bring ideas to life, work with cutting-edge geospatial technology, and collaborate with a team of professionals from diverse fields such as construction and asset management. You’ll also work in an Agile environment, allowing for continuous learning and innovation.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Degree in resource management, geography, or a related field; OR,
  • Diploma in geographic information systems;

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in conducting spatial analysis to support projects and product development.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience using ESRI GIS products in particular, ArcGIS Suite of Tools including ArcGIS Pro.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience developing web mapping and mobile solutions using ArcGIS Online.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with Python and/or other programming language (eg. JavaScript).

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience using a variety of natural resource, economic, and/or social data sets.
  • Experience using a variety of remote sensing or raster data sets e.g. imagery, orthoimagery, satellite data, lidar data, etc.
  • Experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets.
  • Experience in Server technologies e.g. ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcGIS Server, Imagery Server, ArcGIS Portal) or MapServer.

About this Position:
There is currently a temporary opportunity available until January 31, 2025. A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent and/or temporary vacancies across the Ministry of Citizens’ Services.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
The position location will be Victoria or Vancouver.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
