Job Summary

The Team
The Stuart Nechako Advisor, First Nations Relations, as part of a strong team, leads the consultation process with First Nations, ensuring that all legal obligations are met for all forestry applications. The advisor will advise how projects might impact First Nation Rights and Title. You will be working closely with the Senior First Nations Advisor and the Resource Manager. You will be working with a team that is known for their ability to connect with First Nations Communities and navigate through complex issues.

The Role
In this role, you will represent the government with a team to lead First Nations consultations. One of your responsibilities will be to build relationships with First Nations and licensees to ensure completed engagement is thorough and meaningful. If needed, you will recommend accommodations to balance government objectives with First Nations’ interests providing detailed documentation to meet legal obligations. When applying your research skills, you will objectively assess and represent First Nations’ Rights and Title. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in natural resource management, public administration, business administration, law or other relevant discipline and 1 year of recent (within the last 7 years) and related experience in land use, resource management, social or economic development issues; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in natural resource management, public administration, business administration, law or other relevant discipline and 2 years of recent (within the last 7 years) and related experience in land use, resource management, social or economic development issues; OR
  • Diploma or Certificate in natural resource management, public administration, business administration, law or other relevant discipline and 5 years of recent (within the last 7 years) and related experience in land use, resource management, social or economic development issues; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education and recent (within the last 7 years) experience may be considered.

Preference statements:

  • Engaging directly with First Nations communities and undertaking procedural components of consultation related to the natural resource sector.
  • Applying constitutional and statutory responsibilities associated with consulting First Nations.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
