Job Summary

Support Indigenous engagement in the transportation sector in this rewarding role

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure plans transportation networks, provides transportation services and infrastructure, develops and implements transportation policies. The Ministry’s priorities include improving vital rural and urban infrastructure, investing in public transit, cycling infrastructure and other green modes of transportation, reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the economy through the movement of people and goods.

The Advisor, Ingenious Relations leads Indigenous consultation activities for highway projects and in specific situations lead high economic value, high risk for legal challenges, or high political impacts. This position also supports reconciliation of highway right of way through reserve lands, which includes the delivery of reserve acquisition for highway projects and/or resolving outstanding tenure matters. This would involve resource budgeting, contract management, appraisal valuations, surveys and ensuring the Provincial and Federal processes are met during negotiations. .

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in geography, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, law, business administration or related field, with a minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent;OR
  • a relevant diploma with minimum of 5 years of related experience;OR
  • a relevant certificate with a minimum of 7 years of related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related experience includes a combination of any of the following

  • Experience in participating and/or leading the consultation process with Indigenous Relations.
  • Experience in negotiating agreements and settlements with Indigenous Relations
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience project managing multiple projects and negotiations.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, historical highway right of way, resource management, social or economic development issues.

Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Experience with acquisition, surveys, contract services, and consultation related negotiations.

Proviso:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

About this Position:
There are two (2) positions available: one in the Okanagan Shuswap District (Kelowna/Vernon) and the other is the Cariboo district (Kamloops/Williams Lake)
